PS 34 PTA Minutes

Julia Kotowski opened the meeting. All other board members were present.
Mr. Beugoms gave the Principal’s Address
· NY State exam tomorrow and Thursday
· BRIC residency program started for 2nd and 3rd graders. Will be 2 times a week and focus on animation and art.
· Ballroom dancing for the 5th graders will have culminating even at MS 126
· Dual Language Showcase June 1
· Westpoint trip May 6th
· 74th annual Flag Day Celebration June 4th
· Senior Activities are being paid for by School Settlement. This includes yearbook, class trip, and cap and gown.
· Debate Tournament is May 20th
· Art and Music Showcase will be happen, possibly over two days.
· Pre-K Stepping Up ceremony June 20th
· K Stepping Up Ceremony June 21st
· 5th grade graduation June 23rd
· Mr. B mentioned that invitations to Flag Day were sent to local officials including Councilman Restler and Congresswoman Gallagher
Updates from Parent Coordinator:
· Shared highlights from March
· Summer Rising applications opened Monday. It will not be held at 34 this summer, but at 110.
· Reminded parents to activate free bank/saving account.
· The deadline to complete the school surveys has been extended. There will be a raffle for those who participated.
· PTA elections will be held during the next meeting. There are also 4 open slots for SLT. Please email Deise Kowalski if you would like to run for any position.
· There is an art contest for the cover of the Jungle Book musical. Information will be sent home with students.
· April 21st there is no school.
Treasurer Report:
· Brian shared the monthly Treasurer Report. (details of this can be found in the slideshow)
New Business:
· Julia shared results of the school assembly surveys that are being funded with the remaining F status funds. Please see the meeting slides for detailed information.
· The F status funds that are left over from the Lego Robotics position will be used for Wacky Science Show assembly, Sustainable Sounds assembly, and a dance assembly. Please refer to slides for details of how funds were used.
· The remaining funds will be rolled over for next year.
· The Teacher Survey showed teachers spend a wide range of amounts of personal money for their classrooms.
· ?? Why are some teachers spending over $1000 of their own money?
· Someone suggested that more teacher use Donors Choose for support.
· Mr. B mentioned that STEM and Music teachers will need more money compared to classroom teachers.
· PTA will update survey to get more detailed information from the teachers.
· Teachers Appreciation Week May 8th-12th
· The PTA is looking for someone to help run the PTA election.
· Air Quality Survey: Don’t know when there is going to be a follow up. During Lincoln Restler’s visit there was a discussion about solutions, including the possibility of creating a living wall.
· The SCA visited the cafeteria to assess the use of $500,000 funds to update the ventilation in the cafeteria. The SCA says they will need $250,000 so the project is delayed until they can find the extra funds.
Upcoming Events
· Art Party: Live Auction and party. Bidding will be through an online platform. In order to make it happen we will need help with: securing donations, securing sponsors, managing donations, setup, cleanup.
· Gardening Committee will have a spring event on June 3rd. The theme will be around the Native American idea of the 3 Sisters (corn, beans, and squash)
· Westpoint trip: There are 63 people signed up to go on the upcoming trip.
· Polish Movie Nigh: Friday May 12th.
